Every person who dreams about travelling to the most distant corners of the world should definitely see one of the most picturesque capital cities in Europe – London. London is a capital city of Great Britain, it lies on the River Thames, has a population exceeding eight million people, and is the biggest city of the European Union. Every year it attracts more than 30 million tourists from all around the world!
Monuments of London
London is mostly associated with its red double-deckers, Big Ben clock tower and the royal family. And it is only a tip of an iceberg! English capital city has much more to offer. The biggest tourists attractions are: Tower of London, a medieval fortress and a former prison; Tower Bridge, a drawbridge, which spans can be lifted in mere 90 seconds, or Buckingham Palace, which from 1837 is the official residence of British
monarchy and the biggest royal palace in the world. Every tourist should see Westminster, and its collection of buildings situated on the River Thames, including: Westminster Palace, which houses the Parliament, Big Ben, St. Margaret’s Church and Westminster Abbey. You can see here royal graves and memorial plaques commemorating outstanding Brits. Cruise on the River Thames is unforgettable (prices starts from ca. 10 pounds), as on the river banks many famous buildings are situated, e.g. William Shakespeare’s reconstructed theatre. From 1999, on the River Thames there is a so called Ferris wheel – London Eye. It reaches up to 135 metres above the ground and it perfectly fits the river landscape. London Eye spins very slowly – its full turn lasts about 30 minutes. Tourists can enjoy London from a bird’s-eye view – when they sit in one of the London Eye’s capsules.
European capital of culture
English capital city is not only famous for its architecture, but also for its rich cultural offer. We find here Covent Garden Theatre and London
Coliseum, 5 philharmonic orchestras, spacious concert halls and over 40 theatres. London is a true treasury of works of art. Noteworthy are numerous museums, which mostly can be visited for free (please check in advance)– there are more than 60 museums in London! You cannot miss British Museum – the biggest museum complex in the world with many collections of ancient art – Egyptian, Roman, Greek, pre-Columbian, Indian, Chinese and Japanese. National Gallery accumulates a collection of European painting from XIII to the end of XIX century – we can find here paintings of the most famous artists, e.g. Vincent van Gogh or Leonardo da Vinci. When in London, it is worth visiting a famous Madame Tussauds wax museum, where you can take a memorable photo with the royal family or famous musicians, politicians, or actors. You can spoil yourself with a visit for 30 pounds, but still, this visit is really worth it.

ure time – outdoor in Hyde Park or in St. James’ Park, you can go shopping on the famous Oxford Street, which is two and a half kilometre long, and in many pubs and restaurants. Some sources claim that there are ca. 3800 pubs, 6100 restaurants, and 40000 shops in London! In English capital city we can taste the famous English breakfast, that is toasts, fried eggs, bacon, sausages, and beans, and apart from that we can find tastes from all around the world! American or Asian, it is all here. You should definitely try English dish called fish and chips, and praised by the Brits aromatic black tea.

As a plane ticket to London is not cheap, it is worth planning the journey in advance. Prices in the cheapest options start from 26 600 Philippine Peso (2 000 PLN). When searching for accommodation or travel agency, use online price comparison engines and choose the most convenient option. What is important, when you are planning to visit London, come and stay a little longer, at least a few days, as a number of attractions may be overwhelming.
